Amidst the busy weekday schedule made busier with the 3 days ‘The Good Life’ exhibition at Ice Skating Rink, the Rotary Club of Central Calcutta went ahead with the sponsorship of the Annual Sport’s Day of MENTAID, an Association for the Development of the Mentally Handicapped. The original date of the event was declared a Public holiday & had to be rescheduled to 3rd Feb’10 at 10 am at the KFR grounds, Behala.
About 90 children with varying disabilities participated in the musical March-past and different drills such as brisk walking, 50 metres & 100 metres race, assisted walk and relay, followed by fun sports for parents and teachers. It was very heart warming to see the mentally challenged children perform with great zeal and enthusiasm. The prizes and medals were distributed after each event by our Rotarians including the Club President Shri Ratan Jhawar, Ann Shriti Jhawar, Club Secretary Raj Bagri, Rtn. Madhav Mohta & Ann Suman Mohta, besides other guests present during the occasion, comfortably seated under a shamiana. Food packets were distributed to the children, all of whom having participated in one drill or another, some even on wheelchairs. This was followed by a get together lunch for the teachers & staff of Mentaid at the premises of the Mentaid Association adjacent to the grounds.
